The social cause of the French Revolution was that the first and second estates of the social class system of the Old Regime of France had many perquisites while all the third estate did was pay taxes. The first estate owned twenty percent of France while the second estate owned the rest of the land. Neither the first or second estate had to pay taxes. The second estate had the best jobs and the third estate had to pay taxes.
